What Does "Discovering" Mean to Me?

What Does ‘Discovery’ Mean?
There are many meanings of discovery. I think discovery means to explore. The reason is the people are doing the same thing when exploring. I am looking for the next clue in the picture. This is what I think discovery means.

What Makes an Effective Professional Arcade Game?
The game is Jumpcat, and I played it because it looked really fun, and friends recommended it. I am doing research on arcade games because my friend and I are making an arcade game ourselves. The creator of Jumpcat is Scott Griffiths. These are the instructions: you can use the keyboard or mouse like > < ^ or < > space, or a w d or just the mouse to move a cat. The cat jumps over obstacles by using either ^, space, mouse, w. To go faster use >, mouse, or d. To slow down you use <, a, or mouse. The cat cannot get hit by obstacles. It is a 3 star rating for me out of a 1-4 star rating. There is a high score in playing the game.
I will need cardboard and a lot of crafting people like my sister to build this creation. I think it costs about $500 - $700.

Design Brief
What is the Concept Design of My Crusie Arcade Game?
We decided to make foosball because we wanted to. The name of the arcade game is Colin and Savon’s Foosball. One may play the game by scoring goals with the colored players which are on sticks. The rules will be on a paper on the arcade game before you play. The level of difficulty is 3.5 out of 4. You win by getting five goals by turning the grip that moves the players to hit the ball. If you win the game you get tickets depending on how many points you beat your opponent by.
On our blue print we have the defenders, offence and goalies. The shape of it is a rectangle with a miniature soccer field. On the side it has stars and our names. On the front it has the goal, a design, and the ball holder. The two legs are the ticket holder and the ball holder. And that is what our game has.

We will need cardboard, golf balls, metal poles, tape, tops, and army men as players to make our arcade game. It will probably take 2 months to build it. We see problems with the tickets because we are trying to figure out how to crawl into the bottom and feed the tickets out.

What were the Results of Testing Our Game?
Examiner: Mrs. Waters

Date: 1/28/13

Praise: Love the details and use of Army men. Looks just like a regular foosball table.

Question: How does the ticket system work? Should the teams be the same color to avoid confusion? Time limit?

Polish: Might want to make your players more secure. Make sure they can get through the bars!

Student Comment: Thank you; we worked really hard to get the details to pop out on our game, Colin and Savon’s Foosball. We definitely tried the ticket system, but we do not do a ticket system any more. We could not get our hands in there. The teams are different colors now. There is a time limit of 5 minutes, and I agree, we have to get a new ball, which we have now.
Examiner: Diana Koska

Date: 2/1/13

Praise: Love the game. Army men are an excellent idea.

Question: Who had the idea to use the Army men?

Polish: Need a new ball. Poker sticks for when the ball is stuck on the side.

Student Comment: Thank you, we were trying to be creative with our choice of Army men as a part of our game. Savon had the idea of Army men. We have a good ball now. We use rulers for poker sticks. We also flick the ball into the game.
Examiner: Patrick and Katie Russell

Date: 2/4/13

Praise: Nice design. I like the Army men as players. The kids playing it really enjoyed it.

Question: How do you record score?

Polish: Maybe have the players slide a little easier close to one of the holes where the ball enters after score.

Student Comment: We were trying to be creative with the Army men in creating our foosball game. When players score we just keep the score in our head. You are right about the poles; we cut them too short, and we should close one of the holes. Thank you for your recommendations. 

Make It Better

How Can We Make the Crusie Arcade Game Better?

Reflection on Project

What can we do to improve our Arcade Creation?

We could have done nails instead of the glue gun for the players on the poles.

We could have actual soccer foosball players.

Specifically, how would we do this?

We could have bought nails and hammers and BANGED them in. We could have bought mini soccer players.

Reflection on Process

What did you learn to do with the Crusie Arcade Project?

I learned how to build a cardboard arcade game.

What do you know now that you didn’t know before doing the Project?

I didn’t know what a orthographic design was.

What can you do know that you couldn’t before doing this project?

I can make an orthographic design.

What did you like about the project that helped your learning?

I liked how Mr. May allowed us to work things out on our own.

What could have been done differently to help your learning?

Collected more materials.

A Final Reflection:

These are some ways to make my game, Colin and Savon’s Foosball, better. We could have found a way to use nails instead of the glue gun for the players on the poles. We could have gotten actual soccer foosball or mini soccer players instead of Army men. What I like what I can do now is make an orthographic design. I did not know what an orthographic design was but now I do. I learned how to build a cardboard arcade game. How we did that is we started with designing the game and then we got a cardboard box and some enhancements and we built. We came up with the design by looking at each other’s design ideas and picked the best.
